Another week, less answers! Going to doctors and getting tests done has turned into a full time job for me, and I would really prefer my actual job 🙂
This week I had an MRI, and saw a Pain doctor and I feel like I have less information then I had before! I will see the Orthopedic Doctor on Wednesday and he will fully go over the MRI with me at that time, but I had them fax the report to my Pain doctor so he could review it, and it showed pretty much nothing 🙁
While I am glad that means no kind of neck surgery or anything like that, it still doesn’t explain my pain. The Dr. said it showed 2 slightly bulging discs in my cervical spine, but nothing significant. I brought him my stack of other tests I have had done recently and he was able to explain them a little better than before. Basically, my vascular surgeon had no idea what he was talking about, because this was never Thoracic Outlet Syndrome!!! The tests showed nothing abnormal, and my bypass and stents look great. Again, fantastic news, but still no new information.
The Pain doctor was actually a breath of fresh air, he explained everything to me, and gave me hope that he can help me with something other than just masking symptoms with medications. He is doing an Epidural injection on Thursday into my neck, and then said after that he will do another one in my armpit?? They usually take between 2-4 injections to work. I am very familiar with these, I have probably had 20 of these over the years in my back and neck. He felt around my neck and arm at different places and found some angry nerves that he thinks he can calm down.
In the meantime I am also still having an Electromyography (EMG) and Nerve Conduction Study (NCS) to check for anything nerve related, which at this point seems pretty likely. This is the only test that I have somehow never had by any of my doctors, so hoping that it will give us a better idea of how to treat this, and what might be causing it.
I am also going downtown tomorrow to the Blume Cardiovascular Institute at Northwestern Memorial Hospital to make sure there is nothing going on with the ticker. I am pretty doubtful that it is anything Cardiovascular at this point, but all the doctors I have seen have told me it is a good idea to get it checked to be safe.
I hope by the end of this week I will have some answers!! Thanks for all of the nice messages and prayers for me! <3
