Rise Up

Rise Up – Andra Day 2015

A little update before I get started on my next round of Physical Therapy tomorrow…

I’m going back to the Ability Lab for more therapy because my arm, shoulder, and neck aren’t really improving anymore and I still have the upper body strength of a someone 3 times my age. My shoulder is dislocating daily, and I can’t do any reaching overhead without it popping out of place.

This comes from a number of different things… my vascular problems (stents and bypass). My vertebral artery dissection, generalized weakness, and my flexible connective tissues. My physiatrist agrees that I have more improvement to make before I am at maximum improvement so hopefully this PT will get me stronger! The Ability Lab is the #1 physical medicine hospital in the country so I have no questions that I think they will help me ❤️ and this time I’ll be at the fancy new hospital with all sorts of high tech equipment so I am pretty excited to get started!

Last week I had the procedure on my esophagus to stop it from spasming at Northwestern.  I had Botox injected, and so far so good! It was a pretty easy procedure, the only bad thing has been some reflux, but if it means being able to eat solid foods, I will take it!!

I’ve been able to continue working part-time through all of this, and I have to say I am pretty proud of myself for that. I have a wonderful group of bosses (one of my BFFs and her family) who accommodate my restrictions and are patient and kind and let me tell, that makes all the difference ❤️

Time to work on getting stronger and moving ONWARD!!!

After my procedure on Thursday

Lyrics:

You’re broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry go round
And you can’t find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
And I’ll rise up
High like the waves
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousands times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

When the silence isn’t quiet
And it feels like it’s getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we’ll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
We’ll take it to its feet
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We’ll rise, oh oh
We’ll rise

I’ll rise up
Rise like the day
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousands times again
And we’ll rise up
Rise like the waves
We’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
We’ll rise up
And we’ll do it a thousands times again
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you

scarlet begonias

Scarlet Begonias – Grateful Dead 1974

Hair of the Day 🙂

As I was walkin’ down Grosvenor Square,
Not a chill to the winter but a nip to the air,
From the other direction she was calling my eye,
Could be an illusion but I might as well try, might as well try.

She had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes,
And I knew without askin’ she was into the blues.
She wore scarlet begonias tucked into her curls,
I knew right away she was not like other girls, other girls. In the heat of the evening when the dealin’ got rough,
She was too pat to open and too cool to bluff.
As I picked up my matches and was closin’ the door,
I had one of those flashes, I’d been there before, been there before.

Well I ain’t often right but I’ve never been wrong,
Seldom turns out the way it does in the song.
Once in a while you get shown the light
In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

Well there ain’t nothin’ wrong with the way she moves,
All scarlet begonias or a touch of the blues.
And there’s nothing wrong with the look that’s in her eyes
I had to learn the hard way to let her pass by, let her pass by.

The wind in the willow’s playing “Tea for Two, “
The sky was yellow and the sun was blue,
Strangers stopping strangers just to shake their hand,
Everybody’s playing in the heart of gold band, heart of gold band.
